Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (PCU) is a result of the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Finnish and Norwegian missionaries in partnership with Ugandan Christians. PCU was formed in 1984 through the support of the Finnish Free Foreign Mission (Fida International) and the Norwegian Pentecostal Mission (PYM) currently known as Norwegian Pentecostal Mission (NPM).
Since 1984, PCU has been working in partnership with the Norwegian Pentecostal Foreign Mission and Fida International (formerly Finnish Free Foreign Mission) with the purpose of serving the Ugandan society holistically through local churches and projects. The church has implemented health-related and other projects since the 1990’s: the Mpigi Health Project (started 1990), the Rural Development Programme, the Uganda AIDS project (operational 1992-2002) which still continues as a Child Support Programme, the Capacity Building Project of the partner, and HIV/AIDS projects, code named “Opportunity in Crisis” and “Women Against AIDS,” and a humanitarian aid project, the first one in 1986.
