BACKGROUND TO PENTECOSTAL CHURCHES
Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (PCU) was formed in 1984 through the sponsorship of the Finnish Free Foreign Mission (Fida International) and the Norwegian Pentecostal Foreign Mission (PYM). PCU is a result of the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Finnish and Norwegian missionaries in partnership with Ugandan Christians.

Pentecostal Churches Of Uganda
PCU is one of the denominations that form the Universal Church of Christ. The primary goal of PCU is to practice and promote the Pentecostal faith, and doctrine and go to all nations to preach the Gospel and make people Christ’s disciples. (Mk 16:15). PCU mission is therefore to:-
Build partnership with the missionary organization in Scandinavian and other countries and make possible interactions with other organizations in the empowerment of the PCU in her social welfare agenda, including the needy, to solicit resources for the support of these objectives; and to receive donations, contributions, grants, offerings, loans or such like in pursuance of the objectives.
WHAT WE DO BELIEVE
The unit’s vision is individuals and communities living quality lives – free from marginalisation and abject poverty both spiritually and physically – and contributing to the development of their society.
The Goal
The goal of the development co-operation unit is to empower the poor of the poor and the marginalised individuals and groups so that they can move out of poverty and marginalisation and live in meaningful lives.
Mission
The Unit’s mission is to holistically strengthen communities with the aim of improving their wellbeing.

The values the development co-operation unit include: Sense of vocation, Christian principles, Experience, Commitment, Community-based development, Cooperation and participation, equality and human rights.

Our Impact
Pcu has Implemented projects that advocate, care for and develop vulnerable groups of people like the sick, youth, women, children, elderly, victims of natural and human made disasters, people with disabilities and others in order to improve on their livelihood as well as protecting their rights.
Helping the Poor Access Education through Child Sponsorship
The Child Sponsorship programme was initiation in 1992 as an orphans’ care component under the then “PCU Uganda AIDS Project.” This project is supported by local people in Finland together with the mission and development co-operation agency of the Finnish Pentecostal Churches, i.e. Fida International.
Humanitarian Aid for Northern and Eastern Uganda
The main premise of all relief and reconstruction interventions Pentecostal Churches of Uganda is that all possible steps should be taken to alleviate human suffering arising out of calamity and conflict, and that people affected by disaster have a right to life with dignity. Pentecostal Churches of Uganda therefore implements relief and recovery projects to relieve the suffering of vulnerable people in Uganda.
Support to Children Affected By Armed Forces (CAAF)
With funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pentecostal Churches of Uganda and Fida International provided support to Children Associated with Armed Forces (CAAF). The CAAF group, which is made up of former child soldiers ad other children who lost parents during the armed conflict, received trauma counseling; agricultural inputs to boost their household economies; education material to enable receive better quality education; surgery for the wounded to enable them use their limbs and provide for their wellbeing, etc.
Education Support for Returning Populations
Pentecostal Churches of Uganda with its partner, Fida International, received financial support from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland to improve education in areas where former internally Displaced Persons were returning. Pentecostal Churches of Uganda distributed scholastic materials such as exercise and textbooks books, pens, pencils, etc. to about 52,813 pupils in 84 mainly in primary schools; while a total of 700 desks which were distributed in Lira, Amuria and Moroto enable children to study and write comfortably. This enabled the children to receive quality education in 2008 as they have had both writing and reading materials.
