Pentecostal Churches of Uganda<\/span> focuses on building people’s capacity and competence, both as individuals and as participating members of groups and communities to achieve results for themselves.\u00a0 <\/span>Equipping people and local groups with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that broaden their options, their confidence is built up and they are empowered to take control of their lives. Since 1984, PCU has been working in partnership with the Norwegian Pentecostal Foreign Mission and Fida International (formerly Finnish Free Foreign Mission) with the purpose of serving the Ugandan society holistically through local churches and projects. The Child Sponsorship programme was initiation in 1992 as an orphans\u2019 care component under the then \u201cPCU Uganda AIDS Project.\u201d This project is supported by local people in Finland together with the mission and development co-operation agency of the Finnish Pentecostal Churches, i.e. Fida International.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Distribution of agricultural inputs such as cassava cuttings (to 178 CAAF supporting families), 30 heifers, 13 ox-ploughs, 26 oxen, etc., to CAAF families in Obalanga and Morungatuny sub-counties helped the CAAF families improve their production and household economy.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

While HIV\/AIDS is handled through specific HIV\/AIDS projects in Pentecostal Churches of Uganda, the fight against this scourge is also mainstreamed into all programming of the church. <\/span>For example, most of the children supported through the PCU Child Sponsorship Programme are AIDS orphans. The project personnel encourage guardians (especially those who have lost a partner and those who are sickly) and orphans to go for voluntary testing and counselling so as to know their HIV status. The PCU Child Sponsorship programme also supports some children who are HIV positive.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Pentecostal Churches of Uganda has been able to identify and work with existing community helping structures in order to increase support for vulnerable children.
